President of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Akinwumi Adesina has shared on social media a photo of himself and the director-general of World Trade Organization (WTO) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in celebration of her 70th birthday.
Mrs Okonjo-Iweala, Nigeria’s former minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, turned 70 on Thursday.
The photo posted by Adesina featured Okonjo-Iweala without her famous headgaer. He said the photo was taken a day after he was elected AfDB president in 2015.
Adesina described her as a great friend, mentor and supporter.
“Happy 70th birthday Aunty Goz’ @NOIweala. You are a great friend, mentor and supporter. Here we are the day after my election as President of the African Development Bank in 2015. A rare moment without your famous headgear! Historic day. Thanks always! Loads of love,” he wrote.️
Okonjo-Iweala, also Nigeria’s former minister of foreign affairs, is the first woman and the first African to lead WTO.
She assumed office on March 1, 2021.
