Minister of Niger Delta Affairs Godswill Akpabio has written the National Assembly, denying he said the lawmakers got 60 per cent of contracts awarded by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila announced the receipt of Akpabio’s response during plenary on Thursday, moments after the House moved to sue him for perjury and defamation on the expiration of a 48-hour ultimatum given him to name lawmakers allegedly involved.
Mr Gbajabiamila said Akpabio claimed to have referred to old contracts awarded by the NDDC which had not been paid for and some of which are part of the constituency projects of the lawmakers.
The speaker said the minister’s response would be examined further by the Committee on Ethics and Privileges.
