Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has won the presidential election conducted in Akwa Ibom State.
Results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) show that Atiku defeated Muhammadu Buhari by 397,831 votes to 175,429 votes.
Atiku won in 28 of the 31 local government areas of the state while Buhari won in two LGAs, one of which is Godswill Akpabio’s local government area, Essien Udim.
The electoral commission said elections did not take place in one local government area, Udung Uko, because of a militant attack on INEC officials.
