Al Ahly have sacked French coach Patrice Carteron following back to back disappointments.
The Egyptian giants lost to regional rivals Esperance de Tunis in the CAF Champions League finals two weeks ago and were knocked out of the Arab Championship on Thursday night.
Carteron returned to the Cairo-based side mid this year with a clear instruction to deliver the elusive ninth Champions League title but failed with the Tunisians bagging their third instead.
Overall, Carteron led Al Ahly in 21 games across all competitions, winning 12, drawing five and losing three.
Mohamed Youssef, who served as his assistant will assume the hot seat on an interim basis.
Youssef is not new to the club as he previously guided them to the 2013 glory against Orlando Pirates of South Africa, the last time the Red Devils lifted the Holy Grail of African club football.
The club has also let go conditioning coach Michael Linderman and announced that Sayed Abdel-Hafiz will return to the club as the new director of football.
