Super Eagles and CD Feireinse of Portugal shot-stopper, Dele Alampasu, is hoping to make the 2018 FIFA World Cup ahead of veteran Vincent Enyeama.
Enyeama, 35, has been out of the team since 2015 but could return after Nigeria booked a ticket to Russia.
In his absence, the likes of Carl Ikeme, Daniel Akpeyi and most recently, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, have stepped in.
With Ikeme out of the picture due to illness, that leaves just two goalkeepers in the team and one spot up for grabs.
Alampasu and Plateau United’s Dele Ajiboye have on different occasions been called up by Gernot Rohr.
But both now risks not making the trip to Eastern Europe should Enyeama come out of retirement.
For that reason, Alampasu has decided to give it a fight.
“I know it will be very hard for me, but I intend to work harder than,” the former Golden Eaglets safe pair of hands told AOIFootball on Monday.
“I am doing well at the moment and I hope it will pay off with a recall.”
The Lagos-born shot-stopper hailed his teammates following Nigeria’s qualification, saying it was deserved.
“We deserved to qualify from the ‘Group of Death’ because we worked very hard for it and we were the team that wanted it the most,” he concluded.
