Nigeria Under-23 team cruised to the semi-final of the football event at the 11th All-Africa Games in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, with a well deserved 2-0 victory over West African neighbours, Ghana at the Kintele Stadium on Wednesday.
Junior Ajayi and Kingsley Sokari scored goals as the Dream Team VI surged towards ending a 42-year wait for a gold medal, a win which also put defending champions, Ghana, on the brink of elimination.
The Samson Siasia led side were unable to translate their dominance into goals in the early stages with Ghana goalie Richard Ofori spectacularly shutting them out.
Coincidentally, the Black Meteors were eliminated by Congo, same team that fell to the Dream Team VI in the Olympic qualifiers.
The result puts the dream team top of group B on 3 points with a game in hand against Senegal in a group that consists of only three teams after Egypt withdrew from the tournament.
Ghana on the other are rooted to the bottom of the log with just a single point after playing a scoreless draw with Senegal in their first game.
