Former minister of education Oby Ezekwesili has implored churches to take seriously matters of violence against women in the wake of the death of singer Osinachi Nwachukwu.
The ‘Ekwueme’ singer is alleged to have died from injuries sustained while being abused by her husband.
Mrs Ezekwesili said in a tweet on Saturday evening that although the singer’s death is a big blow, allegations of spousal abuse make her demise more painful.
“The death of Osinachi Nwachukwu of the epic Ekwueme worship song really hit hard. To read allegations of spousal abuse worsens the pain,” said the former presidential candidate.
“I hope the truth is unearth and justice given. Everyone, including Churches must take issues of Violence Against Women seriously. Urgently.”
Several persons including singer Frank Edwards have come out to accuse Nwachukwu’s husband of being responsible for her death.
