Despite his boast that he is a Lagos boy and can hide for 30 years, Lekan Shonde, the man who allegedly killed his wife, has been arrested by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).
Although the account of the police that he was traced to a location in Ikeja before his arrest on Monday conflicts with that of the man who said he decided to surrender, what is not in doubt is that he is now in police custody.
Lekan had accused his late wife, Ronke, of infidelity and also denied beating her for the past few years let alone killing her but neighbours close to their residence in the Egbeda-Idimu axis in Lagos say violence was a regular feature of the couple’s life.
In a series of tweets yesterday, Nigerians, prominent among them the President of Women Arise, Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin had expressed outrage over yet another fatal incident of domestic violence.
Okei-Odumakin, on her own, had promised to mobilise her group and do all it takes to ensure Lekan is brought to justice.
