Chief operating officer of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe has outlined key activities planned for the 2024 edition of the prestigious event.
During the unveiling of the AMAA nominees on Wednesday at the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, key members of the jury, screener college, and the Africa Film Academy (AFA) board were present.
The event marked the commencement of preparations for the 20th edition of the awards, a milestone year for the AMAA.
Anyiam-Osigwe highlighted that the 2024 edition holds special significance as it marks two decades of celebrating African cinema.
Series of activities have been planned, including the launch of the AMAA Coffee Book, the AMAA Africa Night of Legends, AMAA Meets Nollywood, an AMAA Africa fashion show and exhibition, and the grand AMAA Gala Night.
The first activity, the unveiling of the nominees and award categories, was carried out by the AMAA college of screeners and the jury.
Official launch of the AMAA Coffee Book is set for October 25, 2024, followed by the Africa Night of Legends on November 1.
The awards ceremony and gala night will take place on November 2, 2024, at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.
This year’s AMAA, themed “Celebrating African Creativity,” is being held in partnership with the Lagos State government.
Popular show host Vimbai Mutinhiri Ekpenyong presided over the unveiling event.
Nomination categories include best documentary, best film by an African living abroad, best diaspora short, the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) award for best Nigerian film, best young/promising actor, best actor in a leading role, and best actress in a leading role.
The event saw a number of prominent personalities in attendance, including George Anyiam-Osigwe, Chinyere Anyiam-Osigwe, Kennedy Anyiam-Osigwe, Dr. Shaibu Husseini (NFVCB Executive Director), Steve Ayorinde, Nobert Young, Segun Arinze, Francis Onwochei, Sunny McDon, Alex O, Cordelia Okpei, Charles Novia, Iyke and Florence Okechukwu, and Dr. Queen Blessing Ebigieson.
