Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has denied reports that he has withdrawn from the 2019 governorship race.
A letter purportedly written by Mr Ambode claiming he had suspended his campaign for second term was circulated on social media on Wednesday morning.
The fake letter added that the governor had endorsed Managing Director of the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC), Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Lagos governorship election.
Speaking through a message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Habib Aruna, Ambode called on the public to disregard the “falsehood spreading across social media platforms.”
Mr Aruna added that there is no iota of truth in the said statement and it did not emanate from the governor or his office.
“We are not oblivious of the desperation from certain quarters that is hell bent on fanning the embers of discord within the Lagos APC.
“The giant developmental strides and infrastructural development embarked upon by Governor Ambode in almost three and half years will be completed by him within the constitutionally stipulated time.
“This is why he has sought the support of party leadership and every Lagosian for re-election in order to complete the good works he has started.
“He is very much committed to that bid,” the statement concluded.
