Lagos State commissioner for energy and mineral resources Olawale Oluwo has resigned his position as a member of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s cabinet, dumping the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a double blow.
Mr Oluwo, 52, made the shock announcement in a letter addressed to the state’s party chairman.
In the letter dated December 3, he explained that he took the decision as a result of the events which played out at the party’s state primary held in October.
Oluwo alleged that the exercise was characterised by voter disenfranchisement, undue influence, violence, and intimidation to members among other activities that violate the electoral law.
He also claimed that the party lacked integrity, stressing that this has diminished the reputation of the state as a reference point for free and fair democratic practice.
APC leadership in the state is yet to respond to Oluwo’s allegations.
Governor Ambode lost his second term bid to Babajide Sanwo-Olu in controversial circumstances during the primary.
Oluwo is a one-time deputy head, investment banking group of Prudent Bank Plc (which later became Skye Bank Plc, but now known as Polaris Bank Ltd).
He has served as board member and chairman of several notable firms one of which is Eurodollar Investments Ltd.
