Multi-platinum selling R&B artiste, Ginuwine, has apologised for making a sweeping statement calling Nigerians scammers.
The R&B singer had on Monday raised an alarm that someone was using his identity to collect money from people on Facebook.
He went on to tag the act as a Nigerian scam.
In his words, “I’m being told someone is using my name to trick people into giving money THIS IS NOT ME!!!! It’s a Nigerian scam going on so if anyone on any page that has my name ask for money curse they a** out people will do anything for a dollar it’s crazy.”
Angry Nigerians filled his comment box with hate messages with many calling him a fool for making such general statement.
Tendering his apology, the 45-year-old wrote on Tuesday: “My apologies to those I offended. I wasn’t speaking about all Nigerians, there’s a scam being done on this page of Facebook and it is for a fact someone who is asking for money and giving an address that is in Nigeria. It could be anyone though not necessarily a Nigerian, a man can admit when he made a mistake my apologies again blessings. But still if you are on this page and someone ask you for money give them the business, lol peace.”
Ginuwine, whose real name is, Elgin Baylor Lumpkin, was one of R&B’s top artistes during the late 1990s and early 2000s.
His biggest hit is the sexually charged ‘Pony’ released in 1996.
