Nigerian lawyer and cancer survivor, Adenike Oyetunde, has shared pictures from her swimsuit shoot with and advice that people should embrace their body.
The 30-year-old amputee, who has decided to learn to swim with one limb, tagged the campaign #EmbraceYourBody.
“It’s easier for people like me to wear tank tops, sleeveless tops, above-knee skirts(because I don’t have fat arms, or stretch marks); but, I have realised, not everyone is this confident. Some can’t because they don’t like their bodies, others are scared of what people will say,” she wrote in an Instagram post on Tuesday.
She also commended women who had birthed children and people whose bodies were undergoing “some panel beating”.
The initiator of Amputee United, Oyetunde encouraged people to love their bodies and warned against body shaming.
Oyetunde had one of her limbs amputated at age 20 in 2006 when she was diagnosed with Osteogenic Sarcoma (cancer of the bone).
The only child of her parents once said “I had to let go of my right leg; otherwise, I bet I most definitely would be at the other side of the divide now.”
She launched Amputees United on World Cancer Day 2017 to provide support for amputees.
