Anambra House of Assembly Majority Leader Nnamdi Okafor aka Akajiugo Awka has died in South Africa.
Okafor has been in the legislature since 2015 on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) representing Awka-South 1 State Constituency.
According to Nigerians Citizens Association in South Africa, the legislator, who was in the country for training, died few hours before his scheduled return to Nigeria.
He reportedly collapsed in the bathroom of his hotel and was pronounced dead at a hospital.
NICASA president, Benjamin Okoli, told The Nation that the corpse has been taken for autopsy.
Okoli also said Nigeria’s Consul-General, Andrew Idi, has been informed of the development.
He said, “It was also discovered that the late Okafor did not register his presence with Nigerian Consulate and High commission in South Africa.
“NICASA discovered that the visiting members of the Anambra State House of Assembly did not register their presence with the Nigerian Consulate and High commission in South Africa during their visit. We think that such negligence should not be allowed by any visiting Nigerian and especially political leaders.”
