Anambra State Sector Commander of the FederalRoad Safety Commission (FRSC) Sunday Ajayi has died in an auto crash.
The accident occurred on the Asaba-Benin Expressway in the early hours of Saturday while Mr Ajayi returning to his base in Awka from Kwara State where he reportedly went for a relation’s wedding.
FRSC spokesman Bisi Kazeem confirmed the death in a statement on Saturday afternoon.
“With utmost submission to the will of Almighty God, I announce the unfortunate and sudden death of our dear Corps Commander Ajayi Sunday, the Sector Commander, Anambra State Sector Command of the FRSC which occurred earlier in the day.
“The Corps Marshal, management, officers and men of the entire Corps are deeply saddened by this untimely and sudden death. May Almighty God grant succour to his entire family members and the Corps in general.
“Rest in perfect peace Officer and Gentleman,” Mr Ajayi’s statement reads.
FRSC Zonal Commanding Officer (ZCO), RS5 Benin Kehinde Adeleye also described the death as shocking and painful.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka, Mr Adeleye described the mood in the FRSC family as sad and deep sense of loss.
Ajayi, he said, was a reliable officer who upheld the ethics and principles of the Corps while alive.
