Senator Andy Ubah has denied rumours spreading about his arrest over alleged money laundering.
Mr Ubah, who represents Anambra South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, in an interview with journalists in Awka on Sunday, said he was shocked at the rumours of his arrest in Lagos.
The senator is the coordinator of President Muhammadu Buhari’s presidential campaign in the South East.
Ubah, who said he had not even been to Lagos for some time, added that he had been stationed in Anambra for the past one week in preparations for the general elections.
He said he had reported the matter to the appropriate authorities. He also requested the police and the Department of State Security (DSS) to probe the matter to unravel the source of the rumour.
“I am surprised at (about) the rumour, I have not been to Lagos for a long time. The DSS and the police know the person that was arrested, it was not me and I am calling on them to clear the air on this.
“I demand a probe into the source of this rumour,” Ubah said.
Lagos police spokesperson, Chike Oti, when contacted by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said that no case involving the senator’s arrest had been brought to his notice.
Ubah also regretted the postponement of the elections by INEC, saying that it was a price the country had to pay to get things right.
He said that in spite of the shift, his party, the APC, remained confident of victory.
