Angry Nigerian fans stormed Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday night after the Super Eagles played out a one-all draw against Ghana, sending the Black Stars to the World Cup.
After 10 minutes from kick off, Super Eagles’ goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho, fluffed Thomas Partey’s strike into his net to put the visitor in the lead.
Moments later, pressure mounted on the Ghanaian defence yielded fruit as the video assistant referee awarded Nigeria a penalty following an infringement on Ademola Lookman.
Troost-Ekong stepped up to convert the spot kick in the 22nd minute of the pulsating tie. Ultimately, the Eagles could not score a second goal to seal their qualification.
After the final whistle in the 6,000-capacity stadium, angry fans invaded the pitch and destroyed facilities.
It was also learnt that some Ghanaian fans were attacked while the police tried to restore order.
