Nigeria striker, Victor Anichebe, was the hero once again as his brace against Hull City helped lift Sunderland off the foot of the Premier League log.
The 28-year-old forward who struck for the first time in almost two years in the 2-1 victory over Bournemouth prior to the international break followed up that performance with yet another impressive showing as the Black Cats thrashed Hull 3-0 on Saturday.
On a day when Sunderland honoured 80-year-old Charlie Hurley, captain of the 1964 promotion team, the focus quickly shifted to the present and a future which remains uncertain.
The 11-cap Super Eagles star wasn’t done yet as he made it three deep into injury time with a rasping drive off the inside of the post.
His double was the first time he grabbed a brace in over 10 years with his last coming against Newcastle while at Everton.
2 – Victor Anichebe has scored his first PL brace since December 2006, when he scored twice for Everton against Newcastle. Firing.

Sunderland who failed to win their first 10 games in the league now have eight points and moved to 19th – two and three points adrift of Hull and West Ham.
