A female member of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), identified as Magdalene Yohana, has reportedly died during the orientation programme in Bauchi State.
Ms Yohana, who was said to be asthmatic, died on April 1 according to reports.
Qed.ng had reported earlier that a male NYSC member, Ihe Fortune-Ihieche, died at the Sokoto orientation camp on April 14.
It was learnt that the state NYSC authorities led by Afolayan James are yet to make an official statement on the incident after going mute on it during the closing ceremony of the three-week orientation course.
The deceased, a native of Gantan village in Kachia local government area of Kaduna State, was said to be orphaned and had reportedly seen herself through school.
A corps member who was close to the deceased told journalists: “The deceased earlier complained to an NYSC official that she would not be able to go to the parade ground because she was asthmatic, but her complaint was dismissed by the official. He said corps members were fond of giving flimsy excuses to avoid parade.”
The source said Yohana partook in the morning meditation the next day, despite her complaint.
She reportedly slumped and was conveyed to the camp’s clinic but her situation worsened, prompting officials to move her to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBTH) where she died.
NYSC spokesman, identified simply as Artu, could not give comments on the incident as he was not in town.
