Former Senate President Pius Anyim has passed the second night in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja, where he is being interrogated over funds traced to a company in which he was a director.
Anyim has been with EFCC investigators since Sunday in the ongoing probe of a former aviation minister, Senator Stella Oduah whose name was listed in the Pandora Papers as one of 10 Nigerians hiding their wealth in tax havens.
The EFCC, according to a source, need the former secretary to the government of the federation to explain how N780 million aviation ministry’s fund found its way into the said company’s account.
“He (Anyim) is cooperating but we would only release him on bail after he has provided satisfactory answers to our queries,” a senior officer quoted by PUNCH said.
EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwujaren did not respond to requests for comments.
