The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed 13 senior advocates of Nigeria (SANs) to defend Bola Tinubu’s victory at the presidential election petition tribunal.
The party announced this in a statement on Tuesday signed by its national legal adviser Ahmad El-Marzuq.
The team is led by Lateef Fagbemi and also includes Marzuq, Sam Ologunorisa, Rotimi Oguneso, Olabisi Soyebo, Gboyega Oyewole, Muritala Abdulrasheed, Aliyu Omeiza Saiki, Tajudeen Oladoja, Pius Akubo, Oluseye Opasanya, Suraju Saida, and Kazeem Adeniyi.
“We are confident that the legal team possesses requisite expertise and experience to ensure a successful outcome for the APC in the presidential election petition matters,” the statement reads.
“We urge members of the party to support the team in its effort to defend the will and mandate of the people.
“We also call on all parties involved to conduct themselves with utmost professionalism and respect for the rule of law throughout the legal process.”
Tinubu’s victory with over 8 million votes is being contested by the opposition parties — the Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The LP had Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, as its presidential candidate while PDP had former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate.
