Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi West at the Senate, has declared the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) under which he was elected in 2015 dead.
Melaye, who is expected to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from which he defected in 2013 made the declaration in an Instagram post on Saturday.
“Political obituary of APC activated,” the former member of the House of Representatives wrote.
Melaye is currently standing trial over alleged gun running in his home state.
He was recently hospitalised after attempting to jump out of a police van taking him to Kogi for trial.
Upon his return to the Senate after his hospitalisation, Melaye elected to sit among PDP senators, saying his former seat was no longer safe.
He boycotted the APC national convention on Saturday along with Senate President Bukola Saraki; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and some other elements from the PDP who joined the ruling party in 2013.
“Happy to be away from the joke going on in Naija today,” he tagged a picture of himself at Heathrow in London.
