The people of Apomu in Nigeria and in diaspora came together on February 10 to celebrate Apomu Day, an event that showcases the rich cultural heritage and investment opportunities in the town.
The event was organised by Apomu Descendants Union (ADU) in Nigeria and diaspora.
In his welcome address, ADU president Bashorun Abass Soliu said the ancient kingdom is investment-friendly and very receptive to investors and tourists.
“The Kingdom boasts of the oldest ancient market in Yoruba land, which we want to develop to international standard,” he said, adding that one of the purposes of this year’s Apomu Day was to raise N250 million for the completion of the ultra-modern palace.
In his speech, the Alapomu of Apomu Oba Kayode Afolabi thanked Apomu indigenes for their unprecedented support since he became the 14th Alapomu four years ago.

He said their tremendous support has been the driving force in his achievements so far. “I appreciate you all and l do not take your support for granted,” the monarch said.
Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, representing Osun West Senatorial District, Olalere Oyewumi, also spoke at the event. He commended Oba Afolabi as a paramount ruler who champions the preservation and promotion of Yoruba culture and heritage. He noted the significant contribution the monarch has made to the progress and development of Apomu.
Similarly, Lanre Ladebo, the first person from Apomu to be in the National Assembly since 1960, commended Oba Afolabi in his efforts in promoting cohesion peace and progress in the community.
Oladebo, who is a member of the House of Representatives, representing Ayedaade/Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency, said the celebration of Apomu Day is a unifying force that strengthens the cultural history, unity and development of Apomu.
Among those who attended the event which took place at ADC Grammar School, Oke Ola, Apomu were Osun State commissioner for energy who represented Governor Ademola Adeleke; Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi, Olofa of Offa; Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, Oluwo of Iwo; Oba Adedokun Abolarin, Orangun of Oke Ila; Oba Olubayo Windapo, Alara of Ara Kingdom; Oba Akeem Ogungbangbe, Owaloko of Iloko- Ijesha; Olubosin of Ifetedo, Oba Akinola Akinrera; former Majority Leader of Osun State House of Assembly, Maroof Olanrewaju; and Azeez Mao, chairman of Isokan Local Government.
