For the third consecutive time, the Court of Appeal in Abuja on Wednesday adjourned till February 27 four appeals filed by the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen.
Mr Onnoghen had filed the appeals before the appellate court in connection with his trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) and the tribunal’s order for his suspension.
The cases were first adjourned on February 12 due to lack of quorum.
On February 15, the Federal Government, through its lawyer, Oyin Koleosho, applied for adjournment to enable the lawyer prosecuting Onnoghen at the CCT, Aliyu Umar, to properly take over the handling of the appeals as directed by the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.
On that instance, the court granted the request and fixed Wednesday as next court sitting.
On appearance on Wednesday, Mr Umar asked for another adjournment to enable him amend papers already filed by the lawyers from the Federal Ministry of Justice and a response to the fourth appeal.
Onnoghen is looking to challenge his suspension, the jurisdiction of the CCT to hear the charges against him, among others.
