Minister of interior Rauf Aregbesola has alleged there were irregularities in Saturday’s governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun.
Governor Gboyega Oyetola emerged the party’s governorship candidate at the polls. Surprisingly, he also defeated Moshood Adeoti, the candidate supported by Aregbesola in the latter’s Ifofin Ward 8 in Ilesa East LGA by 309 votes to 146.
Aregbesola, who was absent at his ward, expressed his displeasure over the conduct of the election in a statement by his media adviser Sola Fasure.
He said he heard how the party’s registration cards were being hawked to Oyetola’s supporters.
The minister said he also received reports of how accreditation was not done in many wards.
He also alleged that people without the party’s identification cards participated in the primary.
Aregbesola, however, urged his supporters to remain calm.
“We have heard of the absence of result sheets and other vital documents for recording results and vital data,” he said.
The minister said his camp also noted the absence of INEC officials in most wards, casting serious doubt on the credibility of the election.
“We note with shame and much regret the consternation of local and international observers on what they regard as a travesty of an election. Be not downcast, be not agitated. Hold your head high.
“We are still receiving and studying all these reports and will take a definitive position on them. You are urged not to take laws into your hands,” he told his supporters.
