Former governor of Osun State Rauf Aregbesola has deleted a post across his social media pages where he appeared to mock his successor in Osun Gboyega Oyetola over his loss at the governorship poll on Saturday.
Oyetola was defeated by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party Senator Ademola Adeleke.
Aregbesola, who is also minister of interior, has been at loggerheads with Oyetola. He also boycotted the election and was spotted by a Nigerian in the United States on Saturday.
Following the announcement of Adeleke as winner of the election, a post was made on Aregbesola’s social media pages which reads, “Osun Le Tente. This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men. – (Daniel 4:17)”.
But the minister soon deleted it and said in a statement by his media aide Sola Fasure that it was an unauthorised post.
“It has come to the attention of the media office of the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, that an unauthorized message was posted on his Verified Twitter & Facebook Pages at about 8:00am on Sunday 17th July, 2022.
“The unauthorized messages have now been deleted. Members of the public, especially the media, are advised to ignore!” The statement said.
Aregbesola left Nigeria on July 15 to attend a conference slated for Monday in Germany by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU).
Sources who craved anonymity because they were not authorised to speak on the matter told Premium Times that Aregbesola could have travelled on Sunday but chose to leave on the eve of the state’s governorship election “for some obvious reasons.”
