Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, on Friday handed over governor-elect, Gboyega Oyetola, to the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, at Tinubu’s residence on Bourdillon Road, Ikoyi.
Present at the presentation was Governor Akinwunmi Ambode who is desperately seeking Tinubu’s support to win the Lagos APC governorship primary on Sunday.
Former Nigerian high commissioner to Ghana, Musiliu Obanikoro, was also present.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oyetola of the APC winner of the Osun governorship election after he polled 1,160 in a rerun on Thursday.
Oyetola beat Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Ademola Adeleke, who scored 325 votes in the rerun.
The 1,160 votes scored by Oyetola in the rerun election in addition to the 254,345 scored in the main election on Saturday gave him total votes of 255,505 to defeat Adeleke.
Adeleke’s result of 325 in the rerun election in addition to 254,698 he scored on Saturday gave him total votes of 255,023 to come second.
Ambode goes into the APC primary election with strong challenge from two former Lagos commissioners, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Obafemi Hamzat.
The governor had earlier on Friday congratulated Oyetola for winning the Osun election.
“The election has been deservedly won. The good people of Osun have chosen quality continuity over uncertainty.
“I have no doubt in my mind that the Governor-elect will bring his wealth of experience to bear and continue with the good works of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, call for unity and take Osun to greater heights,” Ambode said in a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Habib Aruna.
