Argentina football lovers have extended a warm felicitation to the Super Eagles following a shocking 2-0 defeat of Iceland on Friday.
A victory for the Nordic nation would have sent Lionel Messi and friends out of Russia after a heavy defeat to Croatia.
Before the encounter, traffic signs gave messages of support to their Group D rivals.
“Today. Come on Nigeria!” read one of the first before the sun even had the chance to rise and end what had been one of the darkest days in Argentine footballing history.
That proved vital as Gernot Rohr’s team showed courage to beat the Europeans, hence handing the Argentines a lifeline.
Croatia have already secured passage to the last-16 with six points and a game against Iceland to spare.
Argentina, meanwhile are bottom and will hope to sneak to the latter stages with win over second-placed Nigeria.
As a result, Argentines couldn’t hide their joy.
“Thank you Nigeria! Come on Argentina!”, the updated signs read, as Jorge Sampaoli and his men were handed a lifeline and a chance to put things right.

By beating their saviours next week, a last 16 showdown with one of the favourites, France, or Denmark awaits if Australia, who find themselves in a similar predicament on just a single point until now, can’t get out of the group either.
