General Officer Commanding 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Bori Camp, Port Harcourt Maj-Gen Johnson Irefin has died from coronavirus-related complications, Qed has learnt.
Irefin who took over the command of the division in July 2020 died in Abuja.
Spokesman of the division Charles Ekeocha could not be reached for comments.
However, a senior military officer from Abuja confirmed the development on the condition of anonymity.
“One of our fine officers is dead. He is the GOC, 6th Division. He died in Abuja after developing complications caused by the coronavirus,” he told PUNCH.
Irefin was prior to his appointment in Port Harcourt the immediate-past GOC 81 Division Nigerian Army, Lagos.
The army had earlier announced that its ongoing Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference in Abuja had been cancelled after one of the participants tested positive for coronavirus.
