They haven’t won an English title since 2004, but Arsenal can claim to be champions of the Premier League when it comes to Twitter.
The Gunners have more Twitter followers, 6.1 million, than any other club in England. Chelsea are second with 5.94 million and Manchester United third on 5.78 million.
Liverpool are the fourth most followed club in England with 4.66m followers, while Manchester City are fifth, with 2.6m followers subscribing to their posts.
Tottenham, Everton, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and West Ham United complete the top 10 with 1.17m, 601 000, 601 000, 480 000 and 475 000 followers respectively.
Premier League new boys, Bournemouth, have the least followers in the top flight with a relatively modest 75,300 followers. Meaning the club will be relegated alongside fellow new comers, Watford and Norwich City if twitter was the criteria used.
Not just the men are doing big things on cyber space. Arsenal Ladies with 124 000 followers are ranked 28th in the overall list and the highest ranked female side. The Gunners ladies have more social media presence than Premier League sides Watford ranked 36th and Bournemouth ranked 40th.
Manchester United legend and Republic of Ireland assistant coach, Roy Keane, recently slammed the Gunners for being too involved in social media.
“Arsenal have some really good players – some good characters who roll their sleeves up. But they also have one or two players who are more interested in selfies and six-packs, guys who are trying to get their pictures taken every day of the week,” the controversial Keane trolled.
