Arsenal FC of England on Thursday celebrated Nigeria’s 60th independence anniversary with a clip of Nwankwo Kanu’s hat-trick against Chelsea in October 1999.
The Gunners sent a shout-out to its teeming fans in Nigeria via a tweet.
“Chei! Naija celebrates 60 years of independence today! Sending you all our best wishes, Nigerian Gooners. We’ll be celebrating with this @papilokanu hat-trick #NigeriaAt60,” the club said.
Arguably one of Kanu’s finest moments in the Gunners’ shirt, the Nigerian scored a sensational hat-trick against Chelsea in the final 15 minutes of the match to grab an unlikely 3-2 win.
Arsenal had signed Kanu for around £4.15million in January 1999 and finished the season well with seven goals in 17 games.
Kanu, 44, played for the English side under Arsenal Wenger from 1999-2004.
