Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal have completed a deal for Basel midfielder, Mohamed Elneny.
The Gunners have been heavily linked with the Egyptian and reports suggest that the midfielder passed a medical at the club on Wednesday.
Wenger hinted that his latest acquisition could be available for the game against Stoke on Sunday.
The Frenchman said after the 3-3 draw at Liverpool: “Elneny will of course join us. He has joined us. We’ll see if he can qualify for Sunday.”
The deal had been held up by paper work as Elneny needed to have both a work permit and visa approved.
According to reports earlier, Elneny was in London to complete the £7 million transfer and would be officially presented on Thursday.
Elneny, 23, will provide cover for the injured Francis Coquelin in holding midfield for Arsenal, and is expected to be the club’s only senior signing this January transfer window.
The draw at Anfield left Arsenal still top of the Premier League table but level on points with Leicester.
Elneny is Arsenal’s first signing of the January transfer window.
The player has made 39 appearances for the Pharoahs of Egypt scoring thrice.
