Arene Wenger is bookies favourite to become Paris Sint-Germain next coach after Unai Emery’s announcement to step aside.
Spaniard, Emery, took charge in 2016, guiding the Parisians to the domestic double this term.
Yet the club’s Qatari owners seemed unimpressed having failed to win the UEFA Champions League.
Emery confirmed he intends to leave his position at the end of the season on Friday.
“I have told the players, [sporting director] Antero [Henrique] and the president [chairman & CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi] that it is finished,” the Spaniard told a news conference.
“I thank everybody. All that remains is the Coupe de France final.”
Wenger, who has spent 22 years at Arsenal is expected to take over at the Paris club.
The Frenchman is still highly regarded even though he failed to win Europe’s premier club accolade.
