Bashir El-Rufai, son of Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has described the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) as “useless”, calling for its ban.
Bashir’s statement on Monday followed the extension of the ongoing strike by ASUU. The union has been on strike since February 14.
Some of the demands of the lecturers include improved investment in education, and the implementation of the 2009 agreement which contains its members’ conditions of service.
A spokesman for the Federal Ministry of Education on Monday said ASUU did not need to continue its strike, claiming the government had met 80 per cent of their demands.
In a tweet, Bashir said ASUU should be scrapped and replaced with educators that have the interest of students at heart.
His words: “ASUU is a very useless Union. They should be scrapped & replaced with educators that actually give a damn about students and how that translates to the future of this country.”
