Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has deleted posts on Facebook and Twitter where he condemned the lynching of a student Deborah Samuel in Sokoto.
Ms Samuel, a Christian 200-level student of Shehu Shagari College of Education in Sokoto, was killed on Thursday for alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.
Following the incident, a tweet was posted via Atiku’s handle.
“There cannot be a justification for such gruesome murder. Deborah Yakubu was murdered and all those behind her death must be brought to justice. My condolences to her family and friends,” the tweet read.
The same message was posted on his Facebook page.
The messages were, however, greeted with disapproval from some social media users. Some of them threatened not to vote for him if he secures the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Atiku later deleted the posts around 10:20 p.m on Thursday, less than an hour after they were published.
