Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 23 election, Atiku Abubakar, has dissociated himself from the GoFundMe account set up on Tuesday to support his petition of the election at the tribunal.
Atiku, through his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, said he was not in any way connected to the account; he, however, acknowledged it as a private move without discountenancing the initiative.
“We do not know anything about it. We are not in any way connected to it but we consider it as a purely private initiative of the promoters,” he said.
The account has since been taken down.
Reports say over $800 (N288, 000) out of the target of $100,000 (N36million) was donated within 24 hours.
The said project has generated controversy on social media. While some say the former vice president is rich enough to see through his petition at the tribunal, others sa they would not mind taking it as a public project.
