Former presidential candidate and vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi have spoken against the alleged seige placed on PDP governors especially Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike in a hotel in Edo State.
PDP had alleged in a statement on Friday that Wike, who is the chairman of the PDP national campaign council for the Edo governorship election, is being prevented by about 300 policemen from moving freely.
Reacting to the news, Atiku said the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), was not showing fairness with its action.
“A promise of free & fair election cannot be mere lip service. It’s a commitment & should be demonstrated by way of equal access & restriction to every stakeholder. Blockading the hotel of @OfficialPDPNig governors in the eve of the Edo election isn’t a good way to show fairness,” he said.
Mr Obi tweeted: “In the spirit of equity & fairness, Gov Wike & @OfficialPDPNig leaders on party assignment should be given equal opportunities as those of the APC.
“Restricting them while Govs Ganduje, Uzodinma, and others are given unimpeded access is a negation of democracy and a caricature of the fairness promised by the APC govt.”
Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, candidate of the PDP, goes head-to-head with the APC flagbearer Osagie Ize-Iyamu in a fierce contest for the governorship seat on Saturday.
