Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Tuesday sent a goodwill message to the former governor of Anambra State Peter Obi to celebrate his 61st birthday.
Atiku and Obi are both contenders for the nation’s top job in next year’s poll. While Atiku is the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Obi is contesting on the platform of Labour Party.
The former number two citizen described Obi in a tweet as his good friend.
“On behalf of my family, I wish my good friend, presidential candidate of the LP, and former Governor of Anambra State, @PeterObi, a memorable 61st birthday celebration,” Atiku wrote.
He further wished Obi “more years in good health and vitality.”
Obi was the vice-presidential candidate of the PDP in 2019 and effectively the running mate of Atiku.
The ex-governor however left PDP just before the party’s presidential primary in May to boost his chances of being on the ballot during the 2023 polls.
Atiku and Obi have always maintained close contact despite their political aspirations. Obi attended the former’s official declaration of his presidential bid in March and told reporters that Atiku is his “leader, boss and senior brother”.
Obi also said that politics for him is not war, but relationship. He was at the time a member of the PDP.
