Atiku slams N2bn libel suit against Buhari

Atiku-Buhari

Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has asked a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory to compel President Muhammadu Buhari to pay him N2billion in damages and also tender a public apology to him, for sponsoring frivolous suits against him.

Atiku also wants the court to bar Buhari and security agencies in the country from interfering with the 2019 general elections.

The suit was filed in response to a N40million libel suit the Buhari Campaign Organisation had hit Atiku over an allegation that he defamed Buhari and his family with the statement that the president and his family owned huge shares in two private companies, Keystone Bank Plc and 9Mobile Communication Ltd.

In the counter-claim filed through his lawyer, Chukwuma-Machukwu Ume, Atiku challenged the competence of Buhari’s suit which he describes as “highly frivolous”.

The PDP presidential candidate wants the court to mandate Buhari and his campaign organisation to pay the N2billion damages to the camps of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) across the country and for equipment in libraries and Information Technology ‎equipment for all state universities in Nigeria.

The case has been adjourned till March 7 for hearing.
