Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Tuesday visited former military ruler, General Ibrahim Babangida (retd.), in his Minna residence in Niger State.
The meeting, which comes about a week after presidential aspirant Bola Tinubu visited Babangida, lasted for about an hour.
Atiku, however, is yet to declare his presidential ambition ahead of the 2023 elections. He was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2019.
The former number two citizen also met Niger State Governor Abubakar Bello after his closed-door meeting with Babangida.
Atiku told reporters that he was at the Government House on a courtesy visit over the security crisis in the state, especially in the past few months.
“I only came on a courtesy visit to the governor and to commiserate with him and people of the state over the incessant banditry in Niger State,” he said.
“I just discussed with the governor on the insecurity in the state and from what I heard, it is a very serious and pathetic situation and it is most unfortunate.”
Asked about his presidential ambition, Atiku said, “I have only come on a visit. I will let you know about my presidential ambition at the appropriate time.”
