The African Union Commission (AUC) in partnership with the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) on Monday officially announced Lagos as the host city for the 2016 of the cultural fiesta.
Running from November 4 to 6, it will be the third consecutive edition of the three-year-old award to be held in Lagos.
It is however the first to be hosted in conjunction with the state government.
Announcing the choice of host city at a media conference in Ikeja, organisers of the award said Lagos was chosen ahead of Cross Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states because of its position as the entertainment capital of Africa.
Factors like security and available infrastructure also worked in favour of the Centre of Excellence.
Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde, was at the conference to accept the hosting right on behalf of the government and people of the state.
Celebrities at the announcement included 2face Idibia, DJ Jimmy Jatt, Sheyi Shay, Niki Laoye, Brymo and Ycee.
