The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has advised Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun to recognise the chairmen of local government councils reinstated by the Court of Appeal to restore peace in the state.
Mr. Adewale Adebayo, the APM Chairman in Osun, advised in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday in Osogbo.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the APM had withdrawn from participation in the recent local government polls held in the state.
NAN further reports that the party cited what it called a lack of transparency exhibited by the state’s electoral umpire as the reason for its withdrawal.
It also said that the decision to withdraw followed the Court of Appeal’s ruling which reinstated the local government chairmen sacked in 2022.
Adebayo said that Gov. Adeleke should recognised the reinstated chairmen by the Court of Appeal in order to avoid obstacles that could impede good governance and development.
He advised the governor to avoid the repetition of what happened in River State where irreconcilable differences with an arm of government had led to a state of emergency.
I want to say that most of the activities in councils are on hold such as tax collection, marriage solemnisation in registries, payment of remuneration of traditional rulers, sanitation inspection and provision of social amenities among others.
“We are urging Adeleke to work with the reinstated chairmen rather than the lockdown and sit-at-home order, which has paralysed activities in councils across the state,” he said.
According to him, what is necessary must be done to avoid any illegality that can lead to a state of anarchy.
“The governor should immediately recognise the chairmen reinstated by the Court of Appeal,” Adebayo said.
