A former minister of information and culture and ex-Rivers State military administrator Brig. Gen. Anthony Ukpo (retd.) has died following battle with an undisclosed ailment.
Ukpo died on Monday morning in his Asi Ukpo hospital in Calabar, Cross River State capital located along Mary Slessor Avenue close to the University of Calabar.
The former military governor was born in Okpama, Cross River in July 1947. He was one of the army generals who worked with General Ibrahim Babangida (retd.) to topple General Buhari – Idiagbon junta in 1985.
He served as minister of information and culture and Rivers State military governor from 1986 to 1992.
Ukpo’s siblings, Emmanuel Ukpo and Lilian Ukpo, had died last month.
