It has been the awards season and with it comes the most anticipated night in Hollywood – the Oscars! Celebrating the 87th year of Oscars, we watched as the stars took to the red carpet undeterred by the down pour of rain that very night. Just as thrilling and a  suspense to find out who takes home the best actor and actresses gong among other awards, the focus on the red carpet and what to wear is just as crucial. Fashion designers that are too many to name designing custom made gowns especially for the night and stylists at their disposal, the attendees have complete free reign in what to wear! So what did Hollywood’s elite choose to wear to the Oscars this year? The wait is over as the looks are unveiled

Scarlett Johansson wowed the crowds in a statement forest green atelier Versace gown that was made to fit, accentuating her envious figure.  Leading the high-neck trend in a beaded necklace that complemented her dress, Scarlett wasno shrinking violet in this bold green piece and striking haircut. A very bold risk indeed for the night of the Oscars but one that receives thumbs up for sassiness and style.

Jennifer Lopez combined delicately the plunging neckline trend and the voluminous train of her dress, looking immaculate and divine in blush champagne Elie Saab gown made of luxurious beading. In coordinated matching champagne accessories, Jennifer pulled out all the stops to cement her place among the best dressed of the night. Albeit the near accidental stumble she took on stage as a result of the extending train of her dress, still the gown remains a masterpiece of fine beauty.

Turning heads on the red carpet, Best Actress Nominees, Reese Witherspoon, Julianne Moore, Marion Cotillard and Felicity Jones dazzled at the Oscars. Reese Witherspoon carried effortless elegance well in an off shoulder custom monochrome Tom Ford gown with black velvet  broad stripes across the bust and waist that accentuated her petite frame. A total favourite of the night, she stunned from head to toe, keeping her accessories minimal and wearing her hair in soft waves.

Best actress winner, Julianne Moore, looked every inch regal in a sequined custom made Chanel gown. Designed especially for her by none other than Karl Lagerfeld, she embodied ethereal chic in a gown detailing monochrome floral embellishments and a very slick updo. A winner on the red carpet and on the night Julianne beamed with confidence.

Jennifer Aniston looked stunning in a pale beaded Atelier Versace gown that oozed both sophistication and sexy in a glistening off shoulder dress with a thigh high slit. Pairing with her signature blowout, she typifiedeffortless chic.

50 Shades Actress, Dakota Johnson, wore a red Saint Laurent column dress, opting to step away from traditional in favour of a modern twist with unique detail in her dress, supported over one shoulder by a delicate shiny strap

Lupita Nyongo whose trademark look is vivacious and full of colour, this year toned it down in a pearl encrusted Calvin Klein sheath. With not an inch of a pop of colour in sight, her audacious presence in a signature look seemed amiss. We love to see her in rich, vibrant colours

Keira Knightley interesting choice for the night, a loose, floaty rose Valentino gown with handwritten scribbles, although pretty in its own right, it may not have been the first choice befitting the awards show, especially on the night of the Oscars.

What are your thoughts on the Oscars? Did the looks exceed your expectations and who was your best dressed of the night?
