Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Olusegun Onilude, has decried a song by rapper, T-Man Chin Chin, as offensive to the Ogu speaking people of Lagos State.
Mr Onilude made the clarification while reacting to the song entitled ‘Talo Megun Wa’ (Who Brought Ogu).
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that Ogu speaking people of Badagry were core and integral part of Lagos State whose importance cannot be underrated.
The song allegedly dismissed the importance of the Ogu speaking people of Badagry in the state.
“Badagry is an indigenous community where both Ogu and Yoruba people have been coexisting for more than 500 years without any trouble.
“It’s shameful and saddening that someone who is looking for cheap popularity would go about and start saying things that can heat up the polity and could even trigger a communal war.
“People must learn how to control words that come out of their mouth and think about the ripple effects before carrying out some certain actions,” he said.
He noted that the Lagos State Government has embarked on several projects in Badagry, thereby highlighting the importance of the ancient city.
“Badagry was instrumental in the development of the country as it is the cradle Christian civilisation so its importance cannot be overemphasized.
“The state government has carried out several projects in the ancient town and this goes to show its importance so nobody can undermine our history and heritage,” he said.
He advised residents of Badagry to remain law abiding by ignoring the offending song.
