A presidential aide Bashir Ahmad has schooled musician Yemi Alade on the contribution of the government to the development of the Nigerian youths.
Yemi had tweeted on Thursday in reaction to comments made by a Lagos lawmaker Mojisola Alli-Macaulay about most Nigerian youths being “high on drugs all the time”.
“We spend our own money to fly around the world, to represent and be good Ambassadors for Nigeria and Africa. No help or encouragement from our governments,” Yemi wrote.
“But in other countries, artists get grants, come off it. This constant ridicule of the youth does not make any sense.”
Mr Ahmad told her in a tweet on Friday to apply for the N75 billion Nigeria Youth Investment Fund (NYIF) with her business idea.
“If you are not talking about the FREE money, Nigeria has just unveiled the N75bn Nigeria Youth Investment Fund (NYIF), as a youth you are eligible to apply with your business idea, Yemi. Visit http://nyif.nmfb.com.ng to see the procedures, when you apply, inform others, please!” he wrote.
Mrs Alli-Macaulay’s statement has raised eyebrows among the youths.
The lawmaker representing Amuwo Odofin constituency 1 had spoken during plenary at the Lagos State House of Assembly on the looting and pandemonium in the wake of the #EndSARS protest that was hijacked by hoodlums.
Earlier, social media had gone agog following comments by another Lagos lawmaker and actor Desmond Elliot about youth restiveness caused by social media.
