Popular Nigerian comedian, Bright Okpocha, has won an award at The New York 2016 Festival with his Aljazeera documentary, My Nigeria- Basketmouth: Thrash Talking.
The man popularly known as Basketmouth, took to Instagram early on Wednesday to announce this good news, writing “And the documentary on me ‘My Nigeria-Basketmouth: Trash Talking’ done by Aljazeera, won an award for Documentary/Information Prog @ The New York Festival 2016.”
The documentary, which was released last year, is based on what Nigeria means to the successful comedian. He talked about what the typical Nigerian life entails with comic references to popular phenomenon in Nigeria such as the Nigerian police and the electricity problem in the country.
Last week, it was revealed that Basketmouth will be hosting the African version of hit MTV comedy show Ridiculousness alongside South African Presenters, Thomas Gumede and Boity.
Basketmouth was born and raised in Ajegunle, Lagos, where he luckily discovered his gift for comedy and has not looked back since then.
He is married to Elsie Okpocha and they have two children.
