MultiChoice Nigeria has announced that the winner of the 2024 edition of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija 9) reality TV show will receive a grand prize of N100 million.
This prize reverts to the amount awarded in season 7, a reduction from the N120 million given in the All-Stars edition.
The grand prize was revealed at a MultiChoice press briefing held on Tuesday in Lagos.
Executive head of content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice, Busola Tejumola, said: “After 71 days of game playing, on the 6th of October 2024, a grand total of N100 million worth of cash and a brand-new SUV will be won.”
She also introduced a twist for this season, stating that housemates will enter the Big Brother house in pairs.
“This season, Big Brother has mandated that housemates enter the Big Brother house as pairs,” she said, adding that the show will kick off on July 28, 2024, at 7 pm WAT.
Last October, Ilebaye Odiniya from Kogi State won the N120 million grand prize in the Season 8 All-Stars edition, ahead of Mercy Eke.
In May, former housemate Phyna called out MultiChoice on her X account, complaining that she had yet to receive all the prizes and money promised her for winning season 7 edition.
“New show? When winner of season 7 nor see all her prizes and money,” she posted.
Phyna also went live on Instagram to express her frustration and disappointment over the alleged unpaid prize money, claiming she had been owed since the show ended two years ago.
“Nigerians Please Help Me, Big Brother Naija are still owing me $1BTC over N100Million that I won,” she said.
