Organisers of The Nigerian Queen (Queen of Trust International) beauty pageant on Thursday debunked allegations by former queen, Cynthia Ugbah, that winners were being prostituted for money.
Speaking with Qed.ng via telephone on Thursday, a representative of the pageant who identified himself simply as Matthew swore they would never be involved in such illicit practice.
He pointed to a section of the contract signed by the queen herself which states that “as a beauty queen or top model, I am a mirror to the society therefore I shall in no manner involve in nudity scandals or prostitution”.
According to him, “I don’t know about any other organisation but at The Nigerian Queen we have a contract signed with the winner that anything concerning prostitution is not allowed. You can check it in the contract, it is visible there. So how can an organisation that tells you to sign this be involved in such atrocities?”
Mathew said Cynthia did not resign but was suspended after it came to their attention that she tarnished the organisation’s image with the way she dressed and acted.
“She breached almost all the agreement in the contract. As our beauty queen we said the first six months in the office, you must do your charity, pet project and so on. But she has not done anything. As a beauty queen you also have to be an example to others, yet, she is not. The kind of picture she posts reflects badly on us,” he said.
Addressing the allegation that Cynthia was not given the star prize of a car promised to her, Matthew said the contract expressly said “I am fully aware that the star prize (a brand new Kia Rio) will be under the management of Queen of Trust Organisation till after my one year reign.”
Still, the organisation maintains that during her tenure she used the car to do different activities.
Matthew added that Cynthia refused to do what was required of her as a beauty queen, which include doing charity event, pet projects and dressing appropriately.
According to him, Cynthia had on Monday threatened their director to do something drastic which was why “she started the needless rant”.
He provided a copy of the contract she signed as well as uncomplimentary comments made about her online (see below).
Cynthia had on Wednesday accused The Nigerian Queen pageant organisers of trying to get her to sleep with men for money while claiming that they have always done this to all their beauty queens.
In a series of damning Instagram posts (see below), she accused several people in the organisation of launching hate campaign against her after she refused to become a sex slave.
Among the men she was allegedly required to sleep with was a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain from the South East.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Deputy National Director of Nigerian Queen Beauty Pageant, Ms Onyeka Agu, said Cynthia was officially dethroned for gross misconduct.
“All entitlement including her car will be handed over to the 2015 runner up who can lead.
“We will be releasing more details shortly; we believe a beauty queen should be an example for others to follow,” Agu stated.
