Senate President, Bukola Saraki, on Tuesday announced the 21 ministerial nominees sent to him by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, September 30.
Saraki who read the list around 10:45am after opening the sealed envelope, said the list contained the first batch of nominees and that the subsequent names according to the president would come shortly.
As earlier speculated, National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Lai Mohammed; former Governors Rotimi Amaechi, Kayode Fayemi and Babatunde Fashola of Rivers Ekiti and Lagos respectively made the list.
A chieftain of the APC in Oyo State, Adebayo Shittu and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Audu Ogbeh were also included.
Former Governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola; Lagos-lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN); former Managing Director of Nigerian Breweries Limited, Mr. Festus Odimegwu; former presidential candidate, Prof. Pat Utomi; ex-chief executive of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mrs. Ifueko Omoigui-Okaru, and former Minister of Education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, all reported to have been screened by the Department of State Service for ministerial appointment, are missing on the list.
The screening of the 21 ministerial nominees will begin next Tuesday when the Senate would have received the resumes and other documentations of the nominees, Saraki said.
Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, commended Buhari for ensuring the list did not exceed September 30 as promised.
He however asked “when should we be expecting the remaining list”.
Responding, Saraki said, the President in his letter had said he would forward the remaining names shortly.
